(Dial A Challenge x Mariah of Dreams (HYPP N/H)) Born April 28, 2008, died May 11, 2008 due to HYPP complications. I do not advocate breeding of HYPP positive horses. At the time of Mariah being bred to my stallion, I was unaware of Mariah possibly being positive for HYPP because she had never displayed HYPP symptoms while being trained by me and I had assumed that her owner had her tested. It was only after she foaled and I started to ask her owner if she had been tested, because in doing some research I began to realize the possibility of Mariah’s sire, Quincys Dream, of being positive for HYPP. After questioning Quincys Dream’s former owner, we found out he was positive for HYPP. The test kit for HYPP was ordered and this filly died two days after I received the test kit in the mail. The test for HYPP came back positive (N/H) for this filly’s dam, Mariah. Please be aware that when you do decide to breed a stallion or mare that is an Impressive descendant, to find out the HYPP status of that stallion or mare, because one parent, that is positive (N/H) for HYPP, can pass on that HYPP positive (N/H) to its foals 50% of the time. My stallion, Dial A Challenge, is not a descendant of Impressive and therefore does not carry the HYPP gene. Mariah’s current owner, Danny Gilmore of Hudson, CO has made the decision to never breed this mare again. For more information on HYPP you can log onto this website, Bringing Light to HYPP.
